Fans of the popular Houston radio station 106.1 HUMFM are grieving the loss of one of their favorite DJs this past week, who passed away in a tractor trailer crash. Famous Bollywood DJ, Arif Memon, had been with the radio station for a while. He had a huge following and was said to be a very caring and compassionate man by his fellow workers.
On Monday, May 18, at about 12:30 pm, police were called to the scene of a crash along US Highway-59. Shortly before the crash, a man driving a red Freightliner tractor trailer was having trouble with his truck. He pulled over onto the shoulder of the highway and stopped his vehicle. He put up all of the required warning signs to let motorists know the vehicle was stalled.
Right after the driver of the tractor trailer put the warning cones along the solid yellow line between the shoulder and right lane, disaster struck. Arif Memo was traveling along 11100 Southwest Freeway when he was unable to maintain a single lane. He ended up crashing into the back of the tractor trailer in the shoulder. The police aren’t sure what caused the driver to lose control of his vehicle. Perhaps he didn’t see the warnings early enough to stop.
The police confirmed that Memon was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. There was no indication that the driver of the tractor trailer had done anything wrong. It just appeared that the victim was not able to stay in a single lane as he approached the broken down Freightliner.
The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured in the crash. The police didn’t indicate if any charges were pending. However, the investigation is still ongoing.
