One man was killed, and several other people suffered injuries in a multi-vehicle collision in San Marcos over the Labor Day weekend.
The victim is David Hollinbeck, a 61-year-old San Antonio resident.
According to the City of San Marcos, the accident occurred along Wonder World Drive close to Purgatory Creek Bridge around 1 p.m. on Sunday.
The Hays County EMS, San Marcos Police Department, and San Marcos Fire Department, responded to the scene.
Investigations revealed that a 2011 Ford F250 was going west in the left lane on Wonder World when it wandered over to the right side and swiped the side of a Nissan Rogue.
The Ford subsequently drifted back to the left, went over the center line, and struck four vehicles head-on.
The damaged vehicles were a Chevy Silverado, a Ford F150, a Mazda CX9 and a Nissan Altima.
Hollinbeck was the driver of the F150. His wife, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was treated at Ascension Seton Hays Hospital in Kyle. She was discharged later on Sunday.
Meanwhile, every driver and passenger in the other vehicles that were struck head-on was also taken to hospital. The city said many sustained injuries that were serious but not life-threatening.
The road was closed until 6:30 p.m.to allow the San Marcos Collision Investigation Team to investigate.
It is believed that alcohol contributed to the crash and officers obtained a blood search warrant for the driver of the Ford F250.
The city said more warrants could be coming, depending on the outcome of the driver’s toxicology report.
This crash was the 13th fatal crash for the year in the City of San Marcos. With almost four months left in the year, this is the highest number of road deaths experienced in one year since 2012.
That year, there were 13 fatalities.
