It’s getting nicer out. The weather is getting warmer and it’s staying light even later. People like to take advantage of the new season by taking their motorcycles out for a ride. Unfortunately, a lot of drivers don’t look out for bikers. Sadly, this was the case this past weekend in Old East Dallas.
The police responded to the scene in the 2600 block of Matilda Street. It was about 8 pm on Saturday, March 14, 2020. They found a man and a woman who had been riding a scooter. Both of them were injured. Dallas Fire Rescue took both the 28-year old man and the 25-year old woman to the hospital. Unfortunately, the driver succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital later that night. The female was said to have suffered only minor injuries.
The names of the victims have not been released. The authorities are likely waiting to talk to the next of kin. They are also still investigating the crash.
The police know another vehicle was involved in the accident. Witnesses say a black GMC SUV hit the scooter and then took off. They don’t have a license plate or a description of the driver. However, they do know the driver hit the scooter and didn’t even check to see if anyone was hurt. The police are asking the public to call in with any information they may have on the other driver. So far, it’s been two more days and they have no further information on the other driver.
