The police in Sherman County responded to the scene of a 3-car crash on US 287 this past weekend. On Sunday, March 15, at about 6:20 pm, the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to a crash. When they came upon the scene, they noticed that there were 3 cars seriously damaged in the crash.
Apparently, 34-year old Arika Smith from Guymon, Texas was driving her car behind a semi-truck. She tried to pass the truck several times. On her last attempt, she ended up trying to pass on the left and ended up driving into oncoming traffic.
Her car hit the vehicle in the Northbound lanes being driven by Diane Wagner of Butternut, Wisconsin. Diane was in the car with her husband, Gregory Wagner.
After hitting the Wagner’s car, Smith’s car went airborne. It smashed into the semi-truck that she had originally tried to pass. The driver of the semi-truck, who was not mentioned by name, was not injured in the crash.
Both Arika Smith and Diane Wagner were both pronounced dead at the accident scene. Gregory Wagner was seriously injured and was airlifted to the local hospital. There has been no update on his condition.
The police are pretty clear on what happened here. It was a matter of someone being impatient and trying to pass a tractor trailer. This is never a good idea. It’s especially dangerous to try to pass someone on the left. The odds of driving into oncoming traffic is just too great. Now, we have two people dead and one other injured.
If you or your loved one are injured in a head-on collision, then you need to call our car crash attorneys right away. You likely have a potential legal claim against the other driver.
